When Food Isn't to Blame

Many people believe that some common disorders are caused by food allergies. In some cases, the link lacks evidence and in others there are studies that disprove a connection outright. Here are three examples.

Migraine Headaches
Studies show that migraine headaches in certain people are related to histamines and other substances in foods. Scientists still don't understand, however, whether food allergies directly cause migraines in these people.

Arthritis
There is no evidence that most rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis can be made worse by foods, despite claims to the contrary.

Allergic Tension Fatigue Syndrome
This disorder, in which people are tired, nervous, and may have headaches or problems concentrating, doesn't seem to be related to food allergy.

If you suffer from one of these conditions, work with your healthcare provider to find the real culprit to you can get relief — and go back to enjoying the food you thought was to blame.
